Emily was born and raised in Colorado, and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2016 (Sko Buffs!). Emily moved to Houston, Texas for a job in forensic science after college, and now lives on the West Coast. She was sad to leave her home state but excited for new opportunities ahead. Other than forensics, her other passion is dance. Nearly all her life, she has been dancing: her high school and college dance teams, and most recently a member of the Houston Texans Cheerleaders.
What makes you stand out from the crowd? This can be a talent, life-experience, unique hobby.
I love science (specifically forensic science) and dancing. My two most recent jobs were as a Forensic Scientist and a Houston Texans Cheerleader. This was a great combination because I got to make a difference and help others with both of my passions!
What is one experience that has shaped you to be the person you are today, and what advice would you give your younger self?
Being on dance teams throughout my life has shaped me into the person I am today. There is nothing like being a part of a group of like-minded individuals all working hard towards the same goal. Having dance in my life has given me an outlet, a community, and invaluable life lessons.
What is your most memorable childhood experience? (This can be good or bad)
My most memorable childhood experience was growing up in close proximity to my grandparents. They were such a big part of my life, from childhood into becoming an adult, and I have so many great memories with them. They would come over for dinner at least once a week, and they were always excited to come to a school play or sporting event to support their grandchildren.
What is the biggest challenge you have ever faced and how did you overcome it?
My biggest challenge thus far has been attending graduate school while at the same time having a full time job and being on an NFL cheer team. I’m the kind of person who likes to stay busy, always learning new things and pursuing my passions. This time of my life was probably my busiest, full of long days and late nights, but it was definitely the most exciting yet.
